Cosmo’s DNA – The Results Are In!

with 5 comments

I took Cosmo to the vets last Friday to have blood drawn for a DNA test. As idiotic as it sounds, I am curious and now science can help me answer the question, “What is that dog?” I know Cosmo has some black lab in him, but there’s definitely something else in there and inquiring minds want to know! And, since Coz was a Craigslit Rescue, the woman I got him from was clueless (a whole ‘nother story).

My vet recommended a test called The Mars Wisdom Panel. So, in three weeks, I should know exactly what Cosmo’s heritage is.

My guess is: Labrador and/or Golden Retriever with some sort of hound mixed in

News Flash! I got the DNA results in the mail today. Couldn’t wait to get that envelope open and answer the question, just what is that dog? Cosmo’s DNA … drumroll please …. is:

  1. My friend Rob e-mailed me to add his best guess as to “what is it?”

“Personally I think he has some French Canadian Beaver Hut-Runner or Lithuanian Pirogue Retriever!”

    LOL!

  2. your results were so much better than ours. we blogged about it, too. we did the cheekswab and my chow/herding dog/whatever mix came back with ZERO chow (which is impossible) and the only thing that showed up….was afghan hound. which i doubt he has any of.

  3. Bedlington Terrier

Now there’s a variety that’s commonly around to be mixed in LOL.

This is the pooch that the lady was giving you drama about when rescuing wasn’t it?

Ummm, thanx for spending YOUR money as I suspect that my own beloved mixed breeds will remain a mystery as opposed to getting QUESTIONABLE DNA testing results lol.

I drove myself crazy trying to figure out what my beloveds are.

  4. Chris – I probably wouldn’t have spent the $$ if my mom didn’t keep asking me “So, what do you think Cosmo is anyway?” LOL. But isn’t it amazing that science has come this far? D.

  5. He looks like a lab to me. I would never get a DNA test done on Sissy. She would be broken hearted if she thought she was a Chi Mix. heh heh
