Thrifty Finds & Treasures *8/10/8*
Can someone explain to me the cookbook phenomenon? I have sold or donated about 50 cookbooks in the last couple of weeks. Yesterday, I bought 9 to help fill up the gap in the bookcase. Its a sickness I tell ‘ya.
I only stopped at one yard sale yesterday sort of by accident on the way somewhere else. The amount of junk still left at 4:00 p.m. was amazing. i can only imagine what they started with. And, how much they had to repack and put away.
The only things not pictured are a couple of Avalon Hill games ($2.00 each), a small ceramic flamingo sugar bowl, a couple of free books, and two Farberware knives, all of which I put away before snapping their photos. Oops.
Today’s finds:
- Dinner! Courtesy of the guy on the highway next to the Kline’s Kone, and my friend Robin who planted way too many squash plants.
- Funky Dr. Martens (Doc Martens) boots in my size if I wear some heavy duty socks. Also known as Monkey Boots or Goth EMO Punk Doc Martens. I call them a $1.00 bargain!
- Craft Sewing Patterns Galore!
- I love this baking dish .. perfect for some Norwegian lasagna .. Hmm? Marked on the inside of the lid “turi design, Tor Viking, Made In Norway.” $7
- Close up of the graphic on the baking pan.
- Nicholas Mosse Pottery – from Ireland. I used to work with the artist’s brother years ago in Dublin .. and I’ve been to the pottery a couple of times. This stuff is expensive! It looks like a ginger jar without a lid … I’m thinking its a vase now. 25 cents!
- Close up of the Mosse pot.
- I like the colors and the graphics. $1.25
- Coasters. This seems to be the year of coasters so everyone be prepared. Christmas is coming.
- Harley Davidson Coffee Mug .. Present for my sister’s boyfriend that she says she’s only friends with but I don’t believe her – Jeff. He’s a good egg. Did I say 50 cents? Woohoo!
- Stack of books. All were 1/2 off at the thrift. I found a $50 bill taped inside one of the books! Woohoo!
- Amazon Dud Makes Good Christmas Present. $1.00
- There seems to be an Italian theme in the cookbooks this week. $1.00
- Mr. Food isn’t Italian, But I do like his books – His recipes are always easy to follow.
- Hmm. Not a fan. Only bought it because it was 50 cents. Thinking Xmas present again. Mom? You don’t read my blog do you?
- Italian theme continues.
- I have been trying to find some Florida cookbooks to replace the ones that I sold, of course!
- Mr. Food isn’t from the South either. But, like I said, easy peasey.
- Jacque Pepin isn’t Italian either … and his recipes aren’t all that easy to follow either … I just like his French accent and the fact that he was best buddies with Julia Child.
- Nice Linen Dish Towel “Fox Hunt” – $1
